Private tuition

Cécile offers private tuition to individuals or small groups, online or in ‘blended learning’, i.e. both online and in-person near Faringdon:

  • Exam tuition or revision (Common Entrance; GCSE; i-GCSE; AS and A-Level)
  • KS3 French & speaking practice (age 11-14)
  • KS1 and KS2 French (primary school)
  • French as a Second Language & bilingual context

One-to-one tuition aims to deliver a personalised teaching approach tailored to individual learning style and targets. It is particularly suited to individuals focusing on specific criteria required for exam success.

Small group tuition is a cost-effective option for peers working towards a common goal while benefiting from group dynamics and targeted language practice in a friendly and supportive context.

Cécile can help in all four language skills (Listening-Speaking-Reading-Writing) within the following assessment objectives:

  • Communication and content
  • Range of vocabulary and structures
  • Grammatical accuracy and verb conjugation
  • Pronunciation and intonation
  • Fluency, response, interaction and spontaneity
  • Organisation, argumentation and justification
  • Two-way translation
  • Cultural knowledge

Cécile can also help bilingual children develop specific skills which may have been missed out due to the dominance of one language over the other.

Bilinguals at secondary school level, although seemingly advantaged in oral communication, still have to acquire specific topic vocabulary, good writing skills and effective translation strategies if they are aiming for high grades in early GCSE or A-Level entries. In particular, they often need extra support to polish spelling and grammar accuracy in order to achieve a level at writing that matches their verbal communication ability.

Support with French literacy skills, including learning how to read and write, is also available to primary school children receiving bilingual education at home or at school.

During spring 2020, French tuition switched to ‘remote learning’, continuing with a mix of live weekly meetings online and set activities both online and offline. French tuition will continue remotely until further notice, unless ‘blended learning’ becomes possible, i.e. with the addition of in-person meetings when safe and practical.
